Balloon Rocket Races become an engaging STEAM lesson on Forces and Motion in Mrs. Angel Daniels’ 8th Grade Science classes at Bates Middle School. Students built “race tracks” and tested three different sized balloons.  Together, the students measured time and distance in order to calculate speed, analyzed how force is affected by mass and acceleration, and made connections between mass and inertia. Real world connections were made to the basic principles of rocketry. The development of flight and rocketry has led to major advances for humans, and these inventions rely on similar principles.20160923_103303_001 20160923_103843 20160923_094334 20160923_094254 20160923_094102 20160923_094025
