Bates Middle School  is excited to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Relus Lucear Jr.  Mr. Lucear’s education career started as a Special Education Teacher in 1996 with the Clayton County School District in Georgia. He has also held positions teaching students with intellectual and learning disabilities in the Atlanta Public School System and Baldwin County Public School System in Milledgeville, Georgia. In 2004, Mr. Lucear transitioned from the classroom to an Administrative position with the Georgia Department of Corrections Education Division where he served as Principal and as Regional Education Supervisor. In 2011, Mr. Lucear started with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice where he served as Principal and just recently he served as an Assistant Principal with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

Mr. Lucear has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education, a Master’s in Public Administration, and an Educational Specialist Degree ( Ed.s) in educational leadership all from Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga. He has just completed his second semester in the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program at South Carolina State University.  He is certified in South Carolina in Elementary Principal, Secondary Principal and Superintendent.

Mr. Lucear was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia where his family still resides. He currently lives in Elgin, South Carolina. He has a twenty-two-year-old son. Mr. Lucear is a proud and active member of Phi Beta Signa Fraternity Inc., he is currently in the Beta Chi Sigma Chapter in Columbia, SC. In his spare time, he watches the Atlanta Falcons football games as well as supports the athletic teams of the South Carolina State University Bulldogs
